The 3 key pillars of skin health

All skin is individual, yet united in its fundamentals. We center the skin in our designs, often referring to how our formulations are designed by the skin itself.

At the root of every formulation are three key pillars: the microbiome, the skin barrier, and inflammatory status. The Supernatural Crème Cleanser supports all three – actively working in concert to balance, protect, and calm. A disrupted microbiome compromises the barrier. A weakened barrier elevates inflammatory status. Chronic inflammation disrupts the microbiome. Each pillar affects the other.

This is where we begin. Not with skin types or concerns, but with skin itself.

The 3 key pillars of skin health

The 3 key pillars of skin health

01. The microbiome

Your skin's microbiome is its own living ecosystem with billions of bacteria, and microorganisms forming a protective, dynamic community on the skin's surface.

When this system is balanced, skin appears calm and becomes more resilient. However, when disrupted by harsh ingredients, over-cleansing, or environmental aggressors, this balance can be broken.

A healthy microbiome is your skin's first line of defense. It competes against harmful bacteria, produces compounds that support natural skin function, and communicates directly with the layers beneath. Caring for it isn't a trend. It's foundational.

That is why our Supernatural Crème Cleanser is formulated to cleanse without stripping, preserving the microbial balance your skin works hard to maintain.

02. The skin barrier

The skin barrier is your outermost layer. Acting as a gatekeeper, it retains everything the skin – moisture, lipids, structural proteins – and blocks everything it doesn't (think pollutants, irritants, and pathogens).

When the barrier is intact, skin maintains its softness, hydration, and resilience. When compromised, the result is tightness, sensitivity, redness, and dehydration.

That's why we formulate with ingredients that reinforce rather than deplete, working with the skin's natural lipid structure rather than against it.

The skin performs at its best through building its fundamentals and supporting its foundational needs, not compromising its condition. Cleansing, when done right, should leave your barrier intact – not fighting to recover.

03. Inflammatory status

Inflammation is the skin's natural response to stress, and in the short term, controlled inflammation is part of healthy skin function. Managing the skin’s inflammatory status goal isn't suppression. It's about equilibrium.

When the skin isn't in a constant state of reactive stress, it can redirect its functional processes toward renewal, repair, and resilience. However, chronic low-grade inflammation, however subtle, diverts these processes, leaving skin less able to recover, regulate, and protect itself.

When barrier integrity is weakened, irritants enter more freely, which can escalate the skin's inflammatory response and perpetuate a cycle of stress. Addressing this requires more than a single ingredient. It requires a considered formulation.

Our Supernatural Crème Cleanser is designed with this in mind – working across multiple pathways to allow the skin to respond rather than react. By minimising unnecessary inflammatory triggers and supporting the skin's own regulatory pathways, the formulation creates the conditions for the skin to function as it should.
