Transparent Beauty

Circular
Emma Lewisham’s single purpose is to make a meaningful, lasting difference in the beauty industry, paving the way to an industry that is truly sustainable. We believe the pinnacle of sustainability in beauty is circularity.
In the beauty industry we produce 120 billion units of packaging each year. It’s estimated that 95% of this waste can’t and is not recycled, so it goes to landfill or our oceans. A linear business model is not sustainable for our planet. This means that we design out waste and pollution, we keep the materials we use in circulation, and we regenerate the ecosystems we operate in. This is business in the 21st century. Packaging is the beauty industry’s number one contributor to carbon emissions, and by moving to a circular model, beauty brands would lower their carbon emissions by a whopping 70%. For a business to truly be sustainable, it has to be circular. Emma Lewisham is leading the circular movement in beauty.
Emma Lewisham Beauty Circle

Emma Lewisham Beauty Circle
The Emma Lewisham Beauty Circle is all part of our relentless pursuit to set a new standard in the beauty industry. We have a goal to be a 100% circular brand, which means ensuring all of our products and packaging is first and foremost refilled, and at end of life, having processes and infrastructure in place to recycle.

Find Out MoreRestore & Repair
Sustaining the current state of our planet is not enough. The planetary crisis we are facing needs to reversed. We need to repair, restore, and regenerate our planet. This is why Emma Lewisham are going beyond just “being sustainable”. It is our mission to be a circular business that has a regenerative impact on the ecosystems we operate in and the planet as a whole. We’ve got a big journey ahead of us and many challenges to overcome, but this is business in the 21st century.
Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint
We have committed to be a carbon negative business and for all our products to also be carbon negative. This means that we will offset more Greenhouse Gases (GHG’s), through purchasing carbon credits, than we are responsible for emitting as a whole business, and for each individual product.
Beyond purchasing carbon credits we will also implement a carbon reduction plan which involves us evaluating our carbon footprint and putting steps in place to reduce our emissions wherever possible. Although our biggest challenge still remains the transporting of our ingredients and products. Bring on renewably charged electric shipping containers!
Outside what we can control in our own business we will also prioritise working with suppliers who align with our regenerative goals, and assisting where we can to achieve our goal of 100% of our natural ingredients being produced following regenerative agriculture practices.
The urgency of climate mitigation led to the formulation of the Paris Agreement in 2015. Its objective is clear: to keep global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels by 2100, while pursuing a limit of 1.5°C global temperature increase. Achieving this entails halving CO2 emissions by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050. In order to achieve this target, businesses must act and change the way they operate. This is business in the 21st century.
Our Supply Chain

Our Supply Chain
There's a huge and very complex supply chain in beauty, and we review and take ownership for every aspect of it. Emma Lewisham traces and discloses every ingredient we put into our products, every component of our packaging, where we source our ingredients from, and even where we need to improve and find solutions as a company.
Our ingredients all go through a robust vetting process (and why transparency is important to us) to ensure ingredients are: biodegradable, organic (where available), non GMO, cruelty free, child labour free, and are manufactured in a sustainable and preferably regenerative way.

Made in New Zealand
We develop and manufacture all Emma Lewisham products in New Zealand. Our laboratory is ten minutes from Emma Lewisham’s headquarters in Auckland. Emma signs off every single batch before they are hand sealed and boxed, to ensure each batch meets her incredibly high standards of luxury, potency and freshness. We do not make large, mass produced batches of product - despite it being cheaper to do so. We produce small batch runs to ensure what customers get is fresh and incredibly potent. We use organic ingredients first and foremost and do not spare any cost in the production of our products.

Animal Welfare
We firmly believe animal cruelty is more than just testing the finished beauty products on animals. Not only do we not test on animals, we review every ingredient in our products, to ensure they are not tested on animals. We also are constantly reviewing ingredients we use to ensure that popularity and demand does not lead to deforestation and loss of animal life. This is the level of standard and definition we have for cruelty free.

Find Out MoreTransparent
We have a 100% transparent supply chain, outline this openly for our customers to view, ask questions from and take ownership for what we bring into the world. We research every ingredient and openly share information about our supply chain, suppliers, products, ingredients, packaging and how we do business. We have also shared our goals and ambitions (see our sustainability strategy) that we are striving for. We are not perfect, and still have a lot of progress to make, but we are constantly making steps forward, being open and taking ownership for what we bring into the world. We are proudly PETA certified animal cruelty free.
The Emma Lewisham Standard

The Emma Lewisham Standard
We believe in the power and benefits of the complex natural world and produce 100% natural products that don't compromise scientific validated results. A new standard in beauty. Equally important to the Emma Lewisham Standard is our sustainability practices. It is our mission to move beauty towards a circular model - core to drastically lowering carbon emissions and the billions of units of packaging that end up in our landfill and oceans each year. We believe that you can make luxurious, efficacious products without the planet needing to be compromised for it. Our ingredients are 100% traceable (what we call farm to face), we take ownership for understanding our full supply chain and advocating for fair treatment of people, and respect of the planet at every single point along the way.

Sunscreens made with the mineral zinc oxide score well in the EWG's (Environmental Working Group) ratings, because it provides strong sun protection with limited health concerns. A number of companies sell products advertised as containing non-nano zinc oxide. These claims are generally misleading. Although particle sizes vary among manufacturers, nearly all would be considered nanomaterials under a broad definition of the term, including the one proposed in 2011 by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA 2011b).
