I founded Emma Lewisham with a single purpose: to make a meaningful difference and to change the industry for the better.
Our single purpose is changing the industry for the better. We have an ambitious goal to transform the industry to one that is transparent, circular and regenerative.
The seeds of Emma Lewisham were sown when I uncovered an ugly truth; a product I had been using for a personal skin issue (hyperpigmentation) contained an ingredient (hydroquinone) that, although effective, was highly toxic and banned in many countries for this reason.
Further research into this ingredient led me to uncover how unregulated the beauty industry is. Of the 82,000 ingredients used in personal care products, one in seven have been found to be industrial chemicals that are well-established carcinogens, pesticides, and hormone disruptors.
I went looking to replace this product with a 100% clean alternative that was backed by scientific results – only to find it didn't exist. I was used to investing in high-performing, luxurious crèmes and serums that were scientifically validated. Finding a natural alternative felt like a compromise. Suddenly, I found myself at organic health stores searching for a natural equivalent, looking at Shea butters and Rosehip oils, with no evidence to support results. I had the realisation that these products were not going to deliver the performance I was used to. But I also knew that I didn’t want to go back to what I was using.
It also struck me how the beauty industry was contributing to many of the environmental issues we are facing today. Somewhere along the way, that became an acceptable standard.
So I decided to be the change I wanted to see in the beauty industry. I took on the challenge to redefine standards for the beauty industry and prove it was possible to produce 100% clean, natural skincare with scientific validated results, so women wouldn’t have to compromise their beauty, and to set a new sustainable standard at every step of the way. Today, Emma Lewisham proudly rivals the most recognised luxury brands in the world while being a global leader towards a circular and regenerative beauty model.
At the beginning, this was unheard of. I built a team around me to concept our products, including three of the very best biochemists in the country. Together, we spent years researching, sourcing and testing the most potent and proven natural ingredients from around the globe. We worked with the latest science and innovations in the green skincare space (such as peptides, lipids, and plant stem cell technology) to outperform the most expensive products on the market, with a 100% clean and natural twist.
We developed our product line from scratch and approached natural skincare differently. We refused to compromise on using the synthetic preservative commonly used by natural brands in the industry, so we spent six months cracking the natural preservative code. Instead of using two or three hero ingredients, we use up to 30 high-performing natural ingredients at high concentrations – all of which uniquely work together to strengthen results. We put quality and efficacy first, even when it is too expensive or too hard. Cutting-edge natural ingredients can be up to 16 times more expensive than synthetic ingredients.
All of our ingredients are ethically sourced (according to EWG's Skin Deep Database, the leading authority on skincare). Emma Lewisham has banned over 2,700 ingredients that are deemed to be deleterious, or potentially harmful or unsustainable.
Emma Lewisham entered the market with our cult-status Skin Reset Concentrated Even Skin Tone Serum which is 100% clean and scientifically proven to outperform the most recognised and luxurious vitamin C and brightening products on the market.
I continue to be on a mission to make a meaningful difference to people's health and the planet and bring about, a truly beautiful beauty industry.
